As I mark my first National Nurses Week as Chief Medical Officer at Cigna Healthcare®, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the work you do every day. Nurses are the backbone of health care, bringing together clinical expertise, compassion, and advocacy, often across settings and moments, to shape the experience of the people they serve.
Nursing is not comprised of a singular role or job. You are clinicians, educators, and leaders who bring a steady presence in moments of uncertainty, and a trusted voice connecting care and bringing clarity when it matters most.
National Nurses Week coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month, underscoring that care is rarely limited to physical needs alone. Nurses recognize the full context of a person’s health. Whether you are supporting individuals with complex physical needs or walking alongside someone during a vulnerable moment in their mental health journey, your impact is deeply personal and lasting.
Behind every outcome is a person, and behind that person is often a nurse who made a difference — sometimes in ways seen and often in ways unseen. Cigna Healthcare is committed to supporting that work by continuing to strengthen the connections and resources that surround the care you provide.
Thank you for choosing this profession, your ongoing commitment, , and the difference you make every day.
With deep appreciation,
Stanley Crittenden, MD
