Cigna Healthcare medical Individual & Family Plans to be discontinued, effective January 1, 2027

July 29, 2026

Effective January 1, 2027, Cigna Healthcare® will discontinue offering medical Individual & Family Plans (IFPs) both on and off the Health Insurance Marketplace®. Customers with medical IFPs will have coverage through December 31, 2026.

What this means

  • Participation in other Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth® Behavioral Health networks is not affected and agreements do not need to be amended.
  • Cigna Healthcare commercial medical plans and dental IFPs are not affected by this change.
  • In accordance with federal and individual state timely claim filing requirements and account-specific guidelines, claims submitted within the required timeframe regardless of the coverage end date will be processed. Services must have been incurred within the timeframe that coverage was effective.
  • Behavioral health providers can identify patients with IFPs through their ID cards, which will indicate that they have coverage under a Cigna Connect plan.

Customer communications

Letters were sent to affected customers on July 1, 2026. Your patients currently enrolled in these plans will need to select new coverage for the 2027 plan year.

Please be aware that as these customers seek new health care coverage, they may call your office with questions or to ask if you participate in networks of other plans they are considering.
