In January, The Cigna Group announced plans to divest its Medicare Advantage, Cigna Supplemental Benefits (which includes Medicare Supplemental Benefits), Medicare Part D, and CareAllies businesses to Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), the country’s largest customer-owned health insurer.
The transition includes all of the company’s Medicare plans, networks, and customers served by these plans. The projected completion of this transaction is forecasted for the first quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions and required regulatory approvals.
Please note that the agreement to divest these businesses to HCSC does not include any other part of our business under The Cigna Group, including Cigna Healthcare U.S. Commercial, Individual & Family Plans, or Evernorth Health Services.
What this means for you
This announcement has no impact on our partnership with providers or the way you do business with us. You will continue to submit claims, be reimbursed, and contact us as you currently do. Our affected businesses and HCSC remain separate companies until the transaction closes.
You should continue to see and treat patients who are covered by a Cigna Healthcare Medicare Advantage plan as you do today, with no changes to our coverage, services, ID cards, or any other offerings.
This decision is a strategic step in continuing to advance the offerings that are most meaningful to our customers, your patients, and all our partners. We remain fully committed to providing the access to high quality care and services your patients have come to expect.
Working together in the future
While this announcement has no immediate effect on the way we work together or how you treat your patients, we recognize that this decision may affect the way we work in the future. The Cigna Group and HCSC share a commitment to continuity for customers, providers, and other partners as this transition moves forward. We are working closely with HCSC to ensure a smooth experience for patients and providers, and will keep you informed of any potential future changes in advance.
