Access digital ID cards for your patients on CignaforHCP.com

March 13, 2025

Over the past year, Cigna Healthcare has transitioned to digital customer ID cards to enable real-time updates for patient benefit plans and other important information, as well as offer greater efficiency, speed and security over physical ID cards.

Digital cards are not new for Cigna Healthcare. Nearly all our customers have access to their digital ID card through the myCigna app or the myCigna.com website, and many of your patients may already be presenting you with a digital version of their ID card during their office visit. By the end of 2025, Cigna Healthcare intends to fully transition all customers to a digital-only ID card.*

If a patient shows up to their appointment and fails to present a digital ID card, please do not turn patients away before checking to confirm their eligibility. There are several ways for providers, your practice staff, and your patients to easily view and print a patient’s ID card and verify their Cigna Healthcare coverage.

Digital ID card access for providers and practice staff:

After logging in, simply:

  • Click “Patients” in the top menu. The patient may already be flagged under “Patients/Recent” dashboard
  • Enter the patient’s identifying information into the applicable fields and click “Search.”
  • Click on “Patient ID.” The Patient Verification screen will pop up. Click “Confirm Patient.”
  • Click “View Patient ID card” under the Coverage Details section.”
  • A temporary proof of coverage screen will pop up with a picture (front and back) of the patient’s ID card, which can be printed.

This step-by-step guide to benefits, eligibility, and ID card look-up can also be printed for desktop reference.

Other resources include a video that explains the process and Frequently Asked Questions to support practice staff education and conversations with your patients.

Digital ID card access for your patients:

Your patients can log into myCigna.com or myCigna app for a copy of their ID card, and:

  • Show it to you and your staff on their smart phone or tablet.
  • Upload it to your health portal (as technology allows).
  • Email it directly to your office.
  • Print a copy.

*Some states have mandates that prohibit digital ID cards. Colorado, Texas, Minnesota, New York, Florida, and Georgia have certain exclusions. Patients residing in these states may continue to receive physical ID cards in the mail depending on their plan type.
