Primary care providers: The importance of managing your practice panel

December 3, 2024

As valued partners in delivering high-quality care, it is important that Cigna HealthcareSM–contracted primary care providers (PCPs) maintain manageable practice panel volumes to ensure patients have timely access to appointments. Do this by offering a variety of appointment options within your practice, including seeing nurse practitioners or physician assistants and offering virtual care.

Can’t accept new patients?

If you are unable to accept new patients with Cigna Healthcare coverage, please call Cigna Healthcare Provider Service at 800.88Cigna (882.4462) for help closing your practice panel. Note: Cigna Healthcare requires 30 days’ notice to close your practice to new patients.

Please continue to provide care for your existing patients with Cigna Healthcare coverage, even if their plan changes. In addition, if you are a PCP for a health maintenance organization, it is important that you continue to accept all patients paneled to you until the panel is officially closed. This includes those who have not had an office visit.
