Surveys and data that contribute to Star ratings

Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) Survey

Timing: March – June

Description: Survey of randomly selected health plan customers that focuses on their perception of their ability to access quality care.

Care category: Plan responsiveness, access to care, overall quality.

Health Outcomes Survey (HOS)

Timing: July – October

Description: Survey of randomly selected health plan customers that focuses on their perception of their health and recollection of specific provider care received; the same customers are surveyed twice over two years.

Care category: Chronic condition management.

Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®)*

Timing: year-round

Description: A subset of clinical quality measures focused on compliance, preventive care and evidence-based medicine guidelines.

Care category: Patient compliance with preventive care and screening recommendations.
