Carboplatin shortage: Kyxata accepted for existing prior authorizations

July 13, 2026

To help minimize disruption during the temporary Carboplatin manufacturing shortage, Cigna Healthcare® will accept Kyxata as an alternative medication for patients who already have an approved prior authorization for Carboplatin under their medical benefit.

What this means for your patients and your practice

  • This update applies only when the prescription is covered under a patient’s medical benefit. Prescriptions covered under the Cigna Healthcare pharmacy benefit will continue to follow the standard prior authorization process.
  • If your patient already has an approved prior authorization for Carboplatin, you may prescribe Kyxata as the alternative medication without submitting a new prior authorization request.
  • This temporary approach is intended to support continuity of care and help reduce additional administrative work during the shortage.
  • New starts for Kyxata and requests for any other alternative medications, will continue to follow the standard prior authorization process.

Additional information

We do not yet have a confirmed date for when the Carboplatin supply interruption will be resolved. We will continue to accept Kyxata as an alternative medication for existing approved Carboplatin prior authorizations until further notice.
