A message to behavioral health professionals this Mental Health Awareness Month

May 8, 2025

During Mental Health Awareness Week (May 12–18) — and throughout the month of May — we come together to continue the conversation around mental health, reduce stigma, and encourage people to care for their emotional well-being.

It is also a meaningful time to recognize the deep and lasting impact of behavioral health professionals.

As Chief Medical Officer for Evernorth® Behavioral Health (Evernorth), I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the extraordinary work you do each day to support individuals, families, and communities. Whether you are guiding someone through a moment of crisis or helping them take steps toward long-term healing, your presence matters. You bring empathy, clinical insight, and a calm, steady presence to some of life’s most complex challenges.

The behavioral health landscape continues to evolve, shaped in many ways by the lasting effects of the pandemic. Demand has grown and so have the emotional and systemic pressures that come with this work. Yet through it all, you continue to show up with compassion and clarity when it is needed most.

I would also like to acknowledge Nurses Week (May 6–12) and the many behavioral health nurses who are part of this important work. We thank you. Your compassion and clinical care are essential to the people and communities we serve.

The work of behavioral health professionals may not always be visible, but its impact is undeniable. You create moments of connection, safety, and progress that change lives. All of us at Evernorth are grateful for your expertise and unwavering dedication.

Thank you for everything you do and for the lives you help strengthen every day.

With appreciation,

Douglas Nemecek, MD
Chief Medical Officer
